a fog, an afternoon

The fog is kind of dramatic here, in the marsh. It's a weird day. Pretty one, though, don't you think?

dallas, in summary

I took nearly zero photos, ate my weight in Tex Mex (mmm, queso...), explored acres of antiques, and had a lovely and relaxing weekend. I also read an entire book on the way home (The Long Earth). It was perfect, really, though I am glad to be back in the 70 degree weather and away from the 100.

dallas museum of art

The DMA is free! That's awesome!

We popped over to Klyde Warren park to grab a bite from one of the half dozen food trucks and settled on rice bowls and tacos from the Vietnamese truck before heading into the air conditioned museum for the afternoon.

A couple of iPhone snaps:

With a free weekend ahead of me and a ton of frequent flier miles sitting in my account (mostly from my touring days), I called up my brother and sister-in-law and invited myself to their new house in Dallas for a long weekend.

I was picked up from the airport last night, learned about horrible Dallas traffic, got a tour of their adorable house, and after some debate went over to goodfriend for a burger. We shared a giant appetizer of waffle fries covered with cheese and bacon and jalapeƱos and chives, and I got a burger with a fried egg on top (my favorite).

Sometimes you just need to be somewhere new for a few days, you know?

morning views

We live on the marsh (this one, but on the other side) and if you fancy a stroll in the morning it's just a half a mile down to an inlet where you can launch a boat and make your way to the ocean. Or, if you're like me and don't have a boat, it's just a half a mile down to the water where you can stand and enjoy the view and breeze.

Along the way you'll spot cattails and egrets and those birds that fly in giant amoeba formations. Also, lately, geese, who fly in honking every morning and land in the field across the street.

frith farm csa

We have a CSA share with Frith Farm, which is just a few miles down the road from the house. Every Tuesday we mosey on over to pick up our goodies; produce, cheese, eggs. And every Tuesday I tear myself away from the fluffiest black kitten (who is still looking for a home, by the way).

topsham fair

For years and years I've driven past the Topsham Fair sign on the highway, so when I heard that it was this week I got all excited and convinced my mother that we should go. We spent an hour or two checking out farm animals and riding carnival rides before calling it a day.

If you've never been to a Maine fair, you're in for a treat. On a scale from 1 to AMAZING this one is solidly in the middle. It's pretty small, which makes it easy to enjoy everything. There's a pretty good selection of rides to ride and animals to look at. And duh, fried dough. There wasn't a whole lot going on today but over the weekend it looks like they have a lot more demonstrations and things like that.

Psst: if you're looking for AMAZING, the Common Ground Fair in September is it.
